Weekend in Zurich!

i escaped!  for a quick holiday in zurich with 2 dear friends of mine, kaity and tim.  they moved there in january.  tim works for skullcandy and is helping establish their presence in europe.  we've been friends ever since i moved to park city.  they are my original ski buddies, and i love hanging with them.  very easy and fun.  was such a nice breath of fresh air to be with dear friends, in a sweet (if rainy) city where many people speak english, and if not, i know enough german to get around.  a badly-needed break to set myself right again.  the night we arrived we stayed up late drinking wince and catching up...talking about the challenges and surprises living abroad.  learning a new language (they conceded i had the tougher road, as some of my letters are backwards, ha ha!), the joys of discovering a new place, a new culture.  it was food for the soul, being with these dear friends.  so here are some pics from the weekend:

this is the street they live on, this is a pic out their balcony.

tim, ready for dinner!

kaity and me, with the river in the background.

walking in old town.

funky swiss graffiti

small seats outside a gorgeous wine shop.

one of many fountains in the city.  this one is topped by a prince that absolutely looks exactly like the prince marionette in The Sound of Music.  his beard is so pointy!

close-up of the fountain.  apparently the water is so clean you can drink it straight from here!

us.

the street behind us.  adorable!

another beautiful fountain!  we think the flower-shop nearby has a hand in beautifying this one.

goofing on the train to skiing.

vines.

more goofing on the train.

reminder:  don't jump out of the gondola while wearing a suit.

checking the map.

THE FOG!  it was SO foggy.  i've never skied in anything like it.  at one point i couldn't tell if i was moving or standing still.  so we really took it slow.  was too bad, but we had a fun day, regardless.  there were a few moments when it cleared up and we could let loose.  we did find some fresh pow, too!

this guy had a tough dat on the slopes.

gluhwein!!!  my favorite.

view on the train back to zurich.  was about a 1 hr 20 min journey.  all along the lake (zurich see).  so beautiful.  was a shame it was so foggy we couldn't see the tops of the alps, but i trust they were there.

more apres on the train.

the lavender building is where kaity and tim live!

flying angel sculpture in one of the train stations in town.

kaity and tim.  this is why i love them.  very fun, fun-loving people.

Zurich!

view from the gondola on the way up the mountain...weather bad, day still very fun.  :)

was such a great weekend.  like i said a breath of fresh air.  and i bought chocolate!!  makes me feel comforted knowing they are so close (a 3-hr plane ride).  good times.
